Exhibition by Steen Karlsen and Johnny Madsen.

Steen Karlsen was born in Frederikshavn in 1960. He is married with Gilda and together they have a son, Frederik.
Steen is also stepfather to Sonny, Camilla and Ditte.

Steen Karlsen studied at Frederikshavn Shipyard A / S in 1981 as a shipbuilder and a year at a drawing-studio with Ørskov Steel Shipyard, where he worked until February 2003.

The 23-year employment with ship drawing and shipbuilding, together with nature and life around Frederikshavn, have been the inspiration for Steen Karlsen's current métier as a painter.

Steen Karlsen has painted and drawn all his life. In 1999 Steen Karlsen exhibited publicly for the first time, which was a big leap for the shy and private painter. At that time, he painted exclusively naturalistic motifs. However, as painting took more and more hold of him, he began to experiment, which has led to the form of expression he do today - abstract but with many recognizable brush strokes.

Today his livelihood is exclusively painting. He has gradually sold paintings for private, public, companies, art dealers and art associations throughout Denmark. Moreover, he has sold to some foreign customers throughout Europe and the United States.

In all of Steen Karl's paintings can be found his personal signature, namely the 2 small blue people with white head. The signature comes from a previous series of paintings he called "Family Pictures" where it was people with blue bodies and white faces, which were reproduced in different situations. Gradually, the people in his paintings were pushed a little to one side and ended up being tiny, however, still to find in all his paintings.

The viewer's general comment about his paintings is that you in a good mood and feel pleasure in seeing the paintings. This is because they are always happy and friendly colors and motifs.

The gallery in Frederikshavn is open on Saturday and Sunday. 13 -17 and by appointment on tel. 22 29 14 07.
