Marie's House - from fisherman's house to cultural-historical excursion site

Deep in Svinkløv Plantation, close to the North Sea and about 1.5 km from Svinkløv Badehotel in a place that you cannot drive to by car, lies a 600-year-old fisherman's house.

In 2024, Marie's house was ready to open its doors again, after extensive restoration work that has taken place with great respect for old craft traditions.

Marie's House dates from the 1800s (the former Svinkløv House named after the last resident of the house, Marie, who lived there from 1899-1926) and was for many years the setting for the life of a poor family, where Marie lived and raised a large group of children. She lived in the house all the way up to her 30s, where she died at the age of 87

The house has been there since the 1600s and has now been renovated in the best possible way, both for the benefit of the locals and not least it is open to the many hikers on the Ancient Road - with a roof over their heads, wood-burning stove, tables and benches and compost toilet.

The house is unlocked and can be used by anyone who passes by.

Behind the house's renovation and operation are locals in the Maries Hus Association of 2022 in collaboration with Jammerbugt Municipality and the Danish Nature Agency
